Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Kildimo

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Kildimo, County Limerick: a 20-metre earthen ring on a wooded hill-slope, its bank almost swallowed by overgrowth and a large boulder sitting at the edge like a forgotten marker. People may have shaped the ridge for shelter, boundary or ceremony, then left it to the trees. The fort still keeps its circle, waiting for footsteps dense vegetation and distance to reveal again.
In wooded area, on NE-facing hill-slope. Roughly circular area (diam. c. 20m), enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.4m). Bank is completely masked by overgrowth NW->E. Interior, covered by dense overgrowth, slopes down to NE. There is a large boulder near verge at SW. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
