Graveslab in Kildare collects cross slabs, grave slabs, decorated stones and three effigies from the 10th to the 17th centuries inside St. Brigid’s Cathedral. One limestone tablet in the south transept records John Heweston, a Yorkshire man who died in 1658 and was remembered by his wife Christian. The chamber turns forgotten death into visible company, with stone saving what breath and time would have lost.

A large collection of cross slabs, grave slabs, decorated stones and three effigies (See KD022-029023- and KD022-029027- to KD022-029057-), dating from the 10th to the 17th centuries have been placed in St. Brigid’s Cathedral (KD022-029005-). KD022-029051-: In the S wall of the S transept. According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 238), a rectangular limestone tablet (L 1.14m; H 0.51m; T 0.23m) within a moulded frame set on two consoles has an incised inscription in Roman lettering: ‘HERE VNDERNEATH LYETH THE BODY OF IOHN HE/ WESTON ESQ HE WAS BORNE ATT SETTRINGTON IN / YORKSHIRE AND DYED THE 2 DAY OD FEBRU 1658/ AGED 45 YEARES THIS MONUMENT WAS ERECTED AS A MEMORIAL OF HIM BY CHRISTIAN HIS WIF BY WHOM HE/ HAD ISSUE ONE SONNO AND tWO DAUGHTERS THE YO/UNGER DYED THE YERE OF HER AGE AND IS INTER/ED BY HER FatheR’.
