Graveslab in Kildare holds cross slabs, grave slabs, decorated stones and three effigies from the 10th to the 17th centuries inside St. Brigid’s Cathedral. One southern transept slab bears an upside-down shield, a saltire, a molet and three birds beside a cross whose shaft carries part of an inscription. The letters name Redmund Fitzgerald, Anna Sutton, Jacob Fitzgerald and Maria Wogan, and they ask passers-by to remember the dead and pray for them.

A large collection of cross slabs, grave slabs, decorated stones and three effigies (See KD022-029023- and KD022-029027- to KD022-029057-), dating from the 10th to the 17th centuries have been placed in St. Brigid’s Cathedral (KD022-029005-). KD022-029049-: In the S transept. According to Bradley et al. (1986 vol. 3, 237), a rectangular limestone slab (L 2.06m; Wth 0.76m; T 0.14m) is decorated in low false relief with a cross and a coat of arms. The cross has expanded terminals and part of an inscription is carried on the shaft. The arms are upside down at the foot of the cross: a heater shaped shield is divided per pale with a cross saltire and a molet for a third son in the sinister, while the dexter has three birds in chief for Sutton. An inscription in Roman capitals reads: ‘MISEREMINI MEI MISEREMINI MEI SAL:/ TEMUOS AMICCI MEI IESUS: NAM/ MICHI HODIE CRAS UOBIS/ ORATE PRO ANIMABUS REDMUNDI F/ ITZGERALD ET ANNAE SUTTON U/ XOR[I]S EIUS ET PRO ANIMABUS IACOBI FITZGE/ ALD ET MARIAE WOGAN UXORIS EIUS QUI HOC/ MONUMENTUM FIERI FECERUNT/ IDEM IACOBUS OBIIT 24 IUNII 1618’.
