What is recorded here
Detached two-bay two-storey gate lodge, built c.1815, having single-storey porch to front (south). Hipped slate roofs, having roughcast rendered stone eaves course and cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered rubble stone walls throughout. Square-headed window openings with limestone sills having two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows. Pointed arch window opening with limestone sill to ground floor of side (west) elevation, having nine-over-three pane timber sliding sash window incorporating intersecting tracery, now blocked to exterior by recent timber shuttering. Square-headed door openings throughout. Replacement timber panelled door with red clay tiled flooring to interior of porch. Timber battened door to rear elevation door opening. Roughcast rendered quadrant walls attached to south-west corner, having square-profile piers, concave walls with recesses and double-leaf cast-iron gates.
Located adjacent to the entrance of a former rectory, this gate lodge is a picturesque addition to the surrounding area. Its pointed arch opening is an interesting feature, possible intended to indicate that this was the entrance to a clerical dwelling. The pointed window motif is repeated in the courtyard buildings to the rear of the main house. It retains many historic features including sash windows and stone sills, and together with the fine entrance sweep, makes a pleasing roadside ensemble.
