Dunkerron Castle is a ruined four-storey tower house in Templenoe, County Kerry, built in the 13th century as a Carew stronghold and later claimed by the O'Sullivan Mór, whose 1596 plaque still names Owen O'Sullivan and his wife Sily Ní Donogh MacCarthy Reagh. The stone may have served as a boundary marker, a wedding gift, a tax dodge or a quiet threat, but it also shows that identity at Dunkerron was negotiated rather than inherited. Cromwellian confiscation broke that line in the mid-17th century, and Donal O'Sullivan died without heirs in 1754, leaving the prince title extinct and the castle reduced to a shape the wind can still occupy.
