What is recorded here

Keelkyle holds a rounded granite standing stone, one metre twenty tall on a low hillock above Bearna Dhearg Bay. It is not a grand monument, but a small oblong marker set where the land lifts slightly to face the water. Perhaps people placed it there to judge distance, remember an event or mark a boundary. Still visible today, it keeps that old act of pointing attention toward the bay.

Date likely to the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age (c. 2500–1500 BCE), based on the form and context of similar standing stones in the region. Its positioning on a prominent coastal hillock may indicate a ritual or territorial function, possibly linked to landscape marking or ceremonial activity.
