What is recorded here

Indicated was a twenty-metre earthen ringfort on a Mayo ridge, visible in aerial cropmarks after local people destroyed it during the 1980s. It stood above improved pasture with wide views, and its southern arc still shadows the grass like a forgotten breath. The field boundary cut through its western bank, proving that even fairy forts must share space with human ambition.

In improved pasture, located on top of a ridge, with very good views. Indicated on the 1838 OS 6-inch map as a circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 20m), clipped on the outer edge of the bank at W by a NE−SW field boundary; shown on the 1930 edition as a subrectangular enclosure incorporated into a system of field boundaries. According to local information, this rath was of earthen construction and contained a Man-made underground passage (MA072-036001-); it was destroyed in the 1980’s. There is no visible trace at ground level. The outline of the rath is visible in current aerial views as a circular cropmark with a possible fosse and outer bank on the S arc.
