Yarmouth Castle is a square artillery fort built by Henry VIII in 1547 to guard Yarmouth Harbour from French attack. Its landward arrow-head bastion was the first of its kind in England, setting it apart from the earlier circular Device Forts. Twenty gunners and fifteen guns once filled the small courtyard, while later wars kept the stones busy until modern times. Today English Heritage opens the place to visitors, leaving the heavy guns removed but the shape of the defence intact.

Yarmouth Castle was built in the late 15th century by King Henry VII to protect the eastern coast of England from French and Spanish raids. It is important as a well-preserved example of late medieval coastal artillery fortification.
