What is recorded here

Crannog is the local word for an island built or chosen for human life, and Killywillin keeps one such marker beside its water. The name survives even when the shape has changed, because people still point to the same place and call it an island. That much is clear. What is missing is the ordinary detail of lived crannog life: the wooden edge, the door gap, the fire smell, the reason someone built out into open water instead of taking dry land.

The official Northern Ireland record identifies this as ISLAND, possibly CRANNOG. Recorded period: E.CHRIST.. The official map point was placed at the centre of the recorded archaeological site from the source map reference.
