Battle of the Ford of the Biscuits

On 7 August 1594, Hugh Maguire and Cormac MacBaron O'Neill ambushed Sir Henry Duke's relief column at the Arney River, scattering hundreds of hard biscuits across the water. The English lost fifty-six men and sixty-nine more to wounds before fleeing north, while the Irish watched their supplies float past like a strange white storm. The river kept the name, turning a military disaster into a local joke about hunger and pride.
