Mound in Inis Oírr

In a small field towards centre of island. An irregularly shaped mound of earth and stone (N-S 13.5m, E-W 12m, H 1.9m), very overgrown. A number of limestone slabs projecting from its base may be the remnants of a stone revetment. A similar mound lies 30m to S in an adjacent field (GA120-022----). Neolithic passage tomb; dates to the early to middle Neolithic period (c. 3700–3000 BCE). Its construction reflects early communal burial practices and ceremonial landscape use in western Ireland.
