What is recorded here

Inis Oírr holds three leachta near its church, two joined at the south-west corner and a third set slightly apart. They are not vague mounds but sharp rectangular blocks, limestone plinths crowned with flat slabs, measuring about two metres long and one metre wide. They stand like forgotten altars or buried ledgers, waiting for the names and events they once recorded.

This is one of two contiguous leachta (see also GA120-002007-) that are located on the S side of the church (GA120-002001-), at its SW corner. Both are rectangular in plan (2.1m E-W; 1m N-S) and consist of a plinth of limestone masonry capped by a flat rectangular limestone slab (information from Dr J. Waddell).
