Hut site

What is recorded here

In S facing, open mountain terrain between Coomacarrea and Meenteog, on the N side of the Owroe river valley. A cluster of eight huts occur on a terraced ledge. The hut at N (KE081-001002-) is the best preserved. The remainder of the huts (KE081-001003-, KE081-001004-, KE081-001005-, KE081-001006-, KE081-001007-, KE081-001008- & KE081-001009-) are in a poor state of preservation, surviving one to two courses high and ranging in diameter from 2m to 6m. They occupy an area 40m in extent, E-W, below the hut at N. The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 1415. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload: 1 August 2013
