Hut site in Canalough

On a level terrace, on the N side of an E-W rough pasture ridge with occasional outcropping rock, on the seashore on the S side of Blackball Harbour. The remains of a rectangular hut site (5.5m N-S; 3m E-W) defined by a bank (Wth 0.5m; H 0.5m) of earth and stone, which survives best at the S. The banks along the E and W sides vary in height and have several gaps. The bank along the N side is largely eroded by the sea, especially at the NE corner. There is a hut site (CO127-050012-) is 7m to the W and another hut site (CO127-050014-) is 10m to the E. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
