Indicated

Enclosure

What is recorded here

Indicated is a lost circular enclosure in County Mayo, joined at its north edge to another ringfort. It vanished beneath level pasture, leaving no visible trace despite appearing on an 1838 map. The site may have been a working ringfort, yet time and cultivation erased its boundaries. What remains is a ghost shape, remembered only through old survey lines and the silence of open grass.
In level pasture. Shown on OS map (1838) as circular enclosure. Levelled; no visible surface traces. Possibly a ringfort. Conjoined at N with a ringfort (MA121-080001-). The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 366. Date of upload: 7 January 2015
