What is recorded here

Redcastle stands as a roofless shell on a steep Black Isle promontory, marking the site where William the Lion erected Ederdour before MacKenzies held it until 1790. The building incorporates older walls, angle staircases and two western turrets, while a northeast stone still displays R.M. and 1641. It is not merely a ruined castle but a layered place where royal fortress, Norman ownership, clan residence and later alteration remain visible in the same stones.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Redcastle as Engraved Object (silver)(17th Century), Harness Pendant (copper)(period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 100m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
