Lovat Castle stood on a natural escarpment overlooking reclaimed mud flats, held first by the Bissets and later the Frasers until it was dismantled to build a new house at Beauly in 1671. Nothing visible remains except farm buildings and a tall ash tree in the steading that local story claims marks the site. Cropmarks and occasional stone fragments hint at ditches and chambers, but the castle itself has vanished into the land, leaving only a shadow of its shape.

Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Lovat Castle as Enclosure (period Unassigned). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Lovat Castle was built by the Lovat family, a prominent Scottish clan, and dates back to at least the 13th century. It is historically significant as a stronghold associated with the Chiefs of the Fraser clan and played a role in the region's medieval power struggles.
