Cnoc Tigh, 'castle Corbet'

Cist (prehistoric), Cinerary Urn (prehistoric)

What is recorded here

Cnoc Tigh, 'castle Corbet' in Highland, Scotland, holds a prehistoric cist and cinerary urn, marking it as an ancient burial place rather than a castle at all. The name deceives, for no Corbet castle stands there, only dead men and the jars that kept their ashes. Perhaps a family lived nearby and called the hill their castle because death made it theirs, or perhaps a traveler mistook a mound for a keep and the error became truth. Either way, the hill remembers bones before it remembers stories.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Cnoc Tigh, 'castle Corbet' as Cist (prehistoric), Cinerary Urn (prehistoric). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
