Invergarry Castle rose as a tall five-storey tower above Loch Oich, watching the Great Glen for the MacDonells of Glengarry. It survived Cromwellian fire, Jacobite loyalty and Hanoverian destruction before Cumberland’s troops broke it open and ended its life as a family seat. The ruined walls still stand beside the water, preserving the sharp vertical shadow of a house that once measured Highland power by height rather than breadth.

Invergarry Castle was built by the Clan Mackenzie in the 16th century and later held by the Clan Grant. It is important as a historic stronghold in the Scottish Highlands and as a symbol of the region's turbulent clan history.
