Lovat Castle stood on a natural escarpment overlooking reclaimed mud flats, serving the Bissets before passing to the Frasers in the 13 century. The Frasers held it until 1671, when they dismantled it to build a new house at Beauly. Nothing visible remains except farm buildings and a tall ash tree said to mark the site, while cropmarks hint at ditches that once ringed the lost walls.

The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.
