Borve Castle stands in the Highland as a medieval ruin, its stones marked by time rather than display. It may have served as a home, a watchtower or a boundary marker for the people who lived there. Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Borve Castle as Castle (medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Borve Castle was built by the Macleod of Lewis clan in the 16th century and later held by the Macdonalds. It is remembered for its strategic location on the Isle of Lewis and its role in the historical conflicts between the rival clans of the Western Isles.
