Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Rattar as Cairn (period Unassigned), Stone Setting (neolithic) - (bronze Age). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 10m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

Neolithic stone setting and unassigned cairn; the site reflects early ritual or funerary practices in prehistoric Scotland. Its dual classification suggests a long period of use or modification from the Neolithic into the Bronze Age.
