What is recorded here

Castle Hill in Inverness is a military mound where kings, rebels and soldiers kept turning stone into powder, leaving behind only a well, a stair and a fragment of wall beneath modern county buildings. The castle was built, attacked, demolished and rebuilt so often that memory itself became a weapon, each new fort erasing the last man's name. What remains is not a ruin but a rhythm of violence made visible in the shape of the hill.
Scotland's National Record of the Historic Environment records Castle Hill as Artillery Fortification (medieval) - (post Medieval), Earthwork (medieval) - (post Medieval). The official map says its point is accurate as follows: NGR given to the nearest 1m. The record does not by itself mean that the public may enter the place.

The historic-place record does not grant public access. Check current conditions and ownership before entering land or a building.
