Clear fact: Greenoge parish church at the NW angle holds a rectangular cross base on a gate-pier, its socket still waiting for the missing shaft. The church entrance, graveyard edge and angle all point to one thing: a tall cross once stood there, visible to everyone entering or leaving. The base is not decorative; it is the foot of a lost landmark, perhaps marking prayer, warning or identity for the parish.

The rectangular base of a cross (dims 0.85-0.88m x 0.7m; H 0.24-0.27m) with a socket (dims 0.28m x 0.22m; D 0.2m) is on top of a gate-pier at the original entrance of the graveyard (ME045-018001-) of Greenoge parish church at the NW angle (Feeley 2001, 37).
