Graveslab in Portlecka lies recumbent in the southwest corner of Ruan Church, a broken stone seven decimeters thick and seventy-four centimeters long. Its Latin cross has worn smooth under centuries of touching hands, perhaps prayers, perhaps curiosity, perhaps fear. The adjacent upright slab leans like a witness refused by time. Together they mark death not as ending but as a shape the living kept returning to, pressing palms across stone until meaning itself blurred.
