Graveslab

What is recorded here

Graveslab in Gardens (kilkenny City By., St. Mary’s Par.) preserves a small limestone fragment bearing an incised floriated cross, now reduced to a fleur-de-lis and a hint of another. It belongs to St Francis' Abbey, where death and devotion were carved as plainly as bread is shared. The missing parts do not weaken it; they invite the watcher to complete what the chisel began.
In St Francis' Abbey (KK019-026101-). A small portion of a limestone graveslab (L 0.495m; Wth 0.33m; D 0.13m). It is decorated with an incised floriated cross, though on this fragment only a fleur-de-lis and a small portion of another one survives, as well as a short arc of the incised circle at the centre of the cross-head.   Compiled by: Jean Farrelly
