Gortskagh House

Detached eight-bay two-storey outbuilding, built c. 1850, having projecting entrance breakfront. Hipped slate roof with cut limestone eaves course and red brick chimneystack. Roughly coursed dressed limestone walls with tooled cut limestone quoins and having south-east corner. Square-headed window openings with cut limestone sills and timber casement windows, having tooled cut limestone voussoirs to ground floor openings. Segmental-arch carriage entrances with double-leaf timber battened doors, that to breakfront having tooled cut limestone voussoirs. Random rubble limestone walled garden to north having segmental-headed opening set in tooled cut limestone gateway and having replacement double-leaf timber battened door. Sited to north of yard at rear (east) of Gortskagh House, with cut limestone gate piers to entrance.

This is a substantial outbuilding of elegant proportions. The chamfered corner is a notable feature incorporated to facilitate the passage of wheeled vehicles. The presence of a chimneystack in the range may suggest that this building once had an additional domestic function, perhaps accommodating labourers and farm hands in the upper storey. This range of outbuildings forms one of the surviving demesne structures on the Gortskagh House estate.
