Gortdonaghmore holds a grass-covered spread of burnt material beside a drain, marking a fulacht fia where heat and water collided. The site remains partly hidden beneath pasture, its true extent still unknown. People may have gathered there to cook, clean or transform raw nature into sustenance. The earth keeps the charcoal and shape while human voices fade from the border of the field.
