What is recorded here
Three money and fairy stones were recorded in Glanmakee, yet none have been found since. They may still lie beneath grass, soil or forgotten path, waiting for someone who knows which rock to touch. The valley keeps its secrets patient, unharmed and alive.
Glanmakee townland lies to the N of Bealdarrig mountain and is drained by a number of streams that run SW to the Caragh river. Ó Cíobháin records three 'money/fairy stones' - terms used locally to describe rock art - in the N half of the townland (1978, 132-3). These could not be located.
The above description is derived from A. O'Sullivan and J. Sheehan (compilers), 'The Iveragh peninsula: an archaeological survey of South Kerry'. Cork University Press (1996), no. 324. In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.

Rock art in Glanmakee likely dates to the Bronze Age and may have had ritual or symbolic significance, possibly linked to local folklore surrounding fairies or protective charms. The term "money stone" suggests associations with wishes, offerings, or superstitions related to wealth and supernatural forces.
The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
