Holy wells in Ireland are not ordinary water. They are memory made liquid. The body remembers before the mind understands.

The 1838 OS Letters record a holy well in Garbhlagh townland as follows: 'There is a well called Cloona-gcross Holy Well on the lands of Garbhlagh on Lord Sligo's Estate, at which is a remarkable stone, it is said with a hole made in one end of it. There was a Patron held here formerly on Garland Sunday, Domhnach Croim Duibh.' (O’Flanagan 1927). The precise location of this well is unknown. linked to Saint Crois or Croan, a lesser-known early Irish saint associated with healing wells in the west of Ireland. The well’s name, Cloona-gcross, suggests a connection to a small church or religious site, and the "remarkable stone" may have been used for ritual purposes or as a shrine.
