Indicated

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Indicated is a circular earthen ringfort in a Mayo woodland, its ninety-centimetre bank enclosing thirty-seven metres of forgotten life. The earth may have held lamps, breath and waiting, while vegetation now erases the edges of that memory.
In woodland. Circular area (37m N-S; 39m E-W), enclosed by earthen bank (H 0.9m). Interior contains much vegetation. The above description has been derived from D. Lavelle (compiler), An Archaeological Survey of Ballinrobe and District including Lough Mask and Lough Carra. Lough Mask and Lough Carra Tourist Development Association (1994), No. 167. Date of upload: 8 January 2015
