Barrack Island is a tiny artificial crannog hidden in Lough Rea, County Galway, where deliberate stone work still persists beneath the shallows. Map surveys from 1838 and 1929 agreed that the islet measured about nine by six metres, while a 1992 visit found most of it submerged and a few trees growing on the exposed part. It may have been a defended dwelling, a marker, or a forgotten household in the water, but the stones remain arranged rather than scattered.
