Garbally Castle rose in 1499 as a sharp tower for Malachy O'Kelly, but MacWilliam De Burgo broke it five years later. The ruin still holds a vaulted ceiling, murder-hole and gun loop, yet a handball court now scars its northeast wall. Inside that brutal new arena stands a plaque for Ellen Mannion, who died in 1850 after her family sheltered there following eviction. Stone can survive siege, ownership and forgetting; it cannot stop people from turning memory into sport.
