Hen's Castle still stands on a half-acre island in Lough Corrib, marked by water rather than roads. Gráinne Ní Mháille is said to have fought for it after losing Dónal an-Chogaidh, giving the castle its lasting name. The rocks drop suddenly into the lake, and that much is easy to picture: a small fortress exposed on every side, with no backing land to hide behind.
Castlekirk is recorded as a castle in County Galway. Its open map record supplies this location and any linked names or public references.
