Gateway, extant 1837, on a symmetrical plan comprising pair of cut-granite cylindrical piers having cornices below fluted domed capping supporting spear head-detailed cast-iron double gates with rendered chamfered outer piers having cut-granite shallow pyramidal capping supporting spear head-detailed cast-iron railings. Road fronted at entrance to grounds of Abilene.
A gateway forming part of a self-contained group alongside an adjacent gate lodge (see 60230077) with the resulting ensemble making a pleasing visual statement in Newtownpark Avenue.
