Fulacht fia in Mashanaglass

Excavated by E. Fahy (1957b, 71-3), in advance of Lee Valley Hydro-electric Scheme. Prior to excavation, noted as low furze-covered horseshoe-shaped mound (8.5m N-S; 9.1m E-W) in marshy ground. Central area and sections through mound to N, S and W were excavated. Mound composed of broken burnt stone inter-mixed with charcoal. Pit (L 2.1m; Wth 1.2m; D 0.34m) for cooking trough exposed; four postholes in floor of pit would have held corner stakes of trough; dimensions of trough estimated at 1.7m L, 0.79m Wth. Hearth site at W end of trough indicated by layer of compacted charcoal. Cuttings to N, S and W indicated that deposits of broken stone tailed off in those directions. There were no finds.
