Fortification in Athlone

Demi-bastion to SE. A demi-bastion, constructed in the Cromwellian period, was built onto made ground, on the E bank of the river. The demi-bastion abutted the medieval wall, which ran SW - NE along the E side of the back of the original Friary complex. There are no traces of the demi-bastion which was located on the riverbank.
