Kilkea Demesne holds an octagonal limestone font, crudely carved and no taller than a child’s waist. Its shallow basin still carries a drainage hole, proving it remained useful long after beauty left the room. Perhaps infants stood beside it while water climbed their ankles, or perhaps adults knelt in the dark to wash what they could not name. The stone does not decorate itself; it waits for human skin to complete its purpose.

Described in the Urban Survey (Bradley et. al. 1986, 284) as an ‘octagonal undecorated limestone font (dims. H 0.6m; Diam. 0.66m; basin dims. D 0.18m; diam. 0.5m) in the nave of the church (KD037-017003-). Crudely carved. The basin is straight sided and shallow and it has a drainage hole’ (Fitzgerald 1899-1902, 244).
