Fairy fort in Flean More, County Limerick: a 28-metre earthen ring now swallowed by bushes on a gentle slope. Its bank stands barely a metre high, yet the ditch outside still marks the edge of a place people stopped using but never forgot. Maybe it was a farm, a refuge or a child’s climbing hill; maybe the fairies took it back when the tools were gone.

In pasture, on gentle NE-facing slope. Enclosure is entirely covered by dense overgrowth of trees and bushes but appears to be roughly circular in plan (diam. 28m N-S) and enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.05m; ext. H 1.1m), with external fosse (Wth c. 3m; D 0.3m) E->N. Field boundaries abut enclosure at N, SE and SW. Interior slopes down gently to N. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
