Five Castle Street in St Andrews, Fife, holds a spindle whorl and medieval pottery, small tools of daily life buried beneath centuries. The whorl may have spun thread for a weaver, a tailor or a child learning patience, while the broken pottery suggests meals eaten and discarded in an ordinary moment. Castle Street has watched ships, saints and merchants pass, but this corner preserves the quieter human hand that turned, chopped, carried and created before being forgotten.
