Field system in Ballynamony,kilkea Lower

Field system

What is recorded here

Ballynamony, kilkea Lower holds a circular enclosure and two attached fields, probably a ringfort where people farmed or lived before the land forgot their names. The main circle reaches forty-five metres across with a possible entrance at the east, while a larger crescent-shaped field wraps around its south, west and north. A second field joins the assembly at the southwest, completing a compact home and working landscape that aerial photography has drawn from the soil.
Aerial photographs (CUCAP AYL 62-63) show a cropmark of circular enclosure (est. max diam. c. 45m) with possible entrance at the E. A cresentic field or enclosure (KD038-010002-) encircles the site at the S, W and N (est. overall diam. c. 65m), with second field (KD038-010003-) attached at the SW. Probably a ringfort with an attached field system. Date of upload: 15 September 2016
