Field boundary in Curraghan

Field boundary

What is recorded here

Short stretch of a pre-bog field wall (Wth 1.4m; L 2m) built with a double row of gneiss boulders emerging from the bog just above a stream in an upland area. Possible remains of a a second field wall (LE011-168) the upright stone of which is all that survives above ground located 14m to the S. The two field walls appears to intersect at the point where the stream cuts across the face of the bog. The two field walls may suggest the remains of a pre-bog field system underneath the uncut bog. (Kytmannow 2007)
