Paris Island Big

Paris Island Big rises steep from Lower Lough Erne, a wooded drumlin where stubborn terrain denied farmers and handed the land to trees instead. That refusal created a heronry of national consequence, with at least 86 breeding pairs recorded in 2006. Sessile oak, ash, holly and exotic conifers climb its slopes, giving grey herons places to build, argue and raise young above the water.
