What is recorded here

Indicated is a crannog in Fearagh (mahon), County Roscommon, Ireland. It appears as a small five-metre island on the 1837 Ordnance Survey map on the east shore of Black Lough, which reduced from one hundred and eighty to two hundred and forty metres across to seventy metres after partial draining. Nothing remains visible above the reed-choked water, though another possible crannog lies one hundred and ten metres to the northeast.

Marked as a small island (diam. c. 5m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on the E shore of the partially drained Black Lough (diam. c. 70m; original diam. c. 180m-240m). Nothing is visible at ground level in the reed-choked lake. Possible crannog (RO017-098001-) is c. 110m to the NE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
