Graveyard

What is recorded here

Thirty-seven marked graves and seven tombs cluster around the ruined church, yet unmarked pits and exposed bones near the northern wall suggest the visible record captures only part of what lies beneath. The site still received the dead in February 2011, keeping a ancient rhythm of burial alive on ground that may once have stood isolated within estuary water.
This graveyard is listed in the SMR. It is the graveyard surrounding the church (KE079-061----) which was built in 1815. Compiled by: Elizabeth Byrne, Ursula Egan and Sheila Ronan, Archaeological Survey Unit, University College, Cork. Date of upload: 30 May 2011

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
