Knockaunroe holds a small circular cashel on a pasture rise, marked on maps since 1842 and still standing beside modern field walls. Its western bank rises 1.5m through piled boulders, while the eastern side has been rebuilt as a loose drystone wall, blending ancient shape with later human work. The enclosure may have stored grain, sheltered people or marked boundary, but its exact purpose has faded like the removed field walls that once radiated from it. What remains is a quiet ring of stone, half remembered and half reinvented by the land itself.

On a rise in undulating pasture. Hachured on both the first (1842) and Cassini (1920) editions of the OS 6-inch map. Listed as ‘Enclosure’ in the RMP (1996). This overgrown and partly damaged small circular cashel (int. dims. 20.4m N-S; 19m E-W) is defined from W-N by a stony bank (Wth 5m; H 1.5m) which appears to be partly composed of modern spoil from field-clearance activity, with many boulders piled on it. From N-E, the cashel is defined by a low bank (Wth 3m; H 0.3-0.5m) with some stone on it, including some larger field stones. From E-S-W, the cashel wall has been rebuilt as a loose drystone wall (Wth 2m; H 1m). Field walls recorded on OS mapping radiating E, SW and W from the cashel perimeter have been removed and there is a field-clearance cairn just to the E.
