What is recorded here

Caherateige holds a circular stone ringfort built directly into a rock outcrop, preserving three rectangular chambers and a boulder pavement inside its twenty-eight metre wall. A hidden underground passage cuts through the north-west quadrant, suggesting the site served more than ordinary residence. The eastern entrance has collapsed under rubble, forcing entry through uncertainty rather than a documented gate.

In rock outcrop. Circular cashel (diam. 28.3m), in fair condition, defined by a drystone wall. A possible entrance gap at E is now obscured by rubble. McCaffrey (1952, 266, no. 13c) noted three rectangular structures, defined by drystone walls, and a ‘paving of boulders’ within the interior. Only faint traces of internal structures survive at SE and SW. There is a Man-made underground passage (GA113-034001-) in the NW quadrant.
