Fairy fort in Castlegar West, a 30.5-metre circular rath on a gentle NE-facing slope in County Galway, lost most of its bank and fosse to quarrying at NE, E and from S to SW. What remains is a shallow ghost of enclosure, just enough to suggest that people once drew a line around their lives and called the inside home. The stones taken elsewhere may still stand in walls, roads or gardens, carrying the fort’s shape into ordinary use.
