Fairy fort / ringfort in Ballyrourke (clanmorris By.)

Fairy fort / ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts and ringforts in Ballyrourke (clanmorris By.) mark old human life in County Mayo. The earthworks may have served as boundaries, homes or ritual places, while local memory often turns them into fairy workings. People lived beside or avoided them depending on belief, fear or usefulness. The site still belongs to the landscape, holding both human history and strange tradition.
