Fairy forts are human ringforts misnamed by later legend. This is a rath: a defended dwelling place with banks, a ditch and an entrance, built by people who lived here. The fairies entered later, as fairies always do, when people forgot the names of the first residents.

Situated on the summit of a NNW-SSE ridge in an undulating low-lying landscape. This is a raised oval and grass-covered area (dims 30.5m NNW-SSE; 20m ENE-WSW) defined by an earthen bank (at SE: Wth of base 7.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 2.7m) SE-W, largely reduced to a scarp (at NNW: Wth 5.5m; H 2.7m) elsewhere. The interior is separated by a fosse (Wth of top 8m; Wth of base 1.5m; ext. D 0.4-0.5m) from an outer earthen bank (Wth of base 3.5m; ext. H 0.8m) that has some external stone facing, but the fosse and outer bank are reduced to a berm NNE-SE. There is a stone-lined entrance through the inner (Wth of base 2m) and outer (Wth of base 3.2m) banks at S that might be related to the stone-facing of the outer bank.
